NorthStar Cafe might be referred to by its official name as a ‘cafe’, but it’s actually more of a pub-slash-sports bar than a cafe.
This dive bar in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood has been in operation since 1882, and it has grown popular with the locals with its relaxed atmosphere and awesomely friendly staff.
Compared to most bars in San Francisco that start their happy hour at 4 or 5pm, happy hour at NorthStar Cafe starts a lot earlier. On Mondays to Fridays their happy hour starts at 1pm and extends up until 7pm to which they offer great happy hour deals such as three dollar ($3) pints of beer and well drinks.
On some Wednesdays (and other days) the NorthStar Cafe is host to a “Rocks, Papers & Scissors” tournament and pub crawl where they offer select beers at $2.50.
Given their cheap deals and its cozy size, it can get crowded at times but that’s what dive bars are for, right?
Note: NorthStar Cafe sits very close to Italian restaurants and bars and The NorthStar doesn’t have its own private parking space and parking can get crowded, so be sure to arrive early to avoid any parking hassle.
